Professor Claire Drummond

Deputy Dean, Rural and Remote Health SA

College of Medicine and Public Health

place Sturt South (S270)
GPO Box 2100, Adelaide 5001, South Australia

As the Deputy Dean of Rural Health SA, I am passionate about engaging our Rural and Remote communities across the Flinders footprint in community-engaged interprofessional education and training in medical, allied health and nursing and midwifery students. I believe that education and training should be accessable for all, and not just the few. As the former head of the Exercise Science programs, I am a strong advocate for Exercise is Medicine. I have had success in a number of research areas such as Physical Activity, Body Image, Gender, and Exercise Prescription and have a strong focus in elite level sport. I have demonstrated expertise and track record in adolescent girl's (dis)engagement in Physical Activity and present in this area regularly. I have a proven history in higher education particularly in innovation and new course development across Health.

I have been in a number of Executive Roles and have vast knowledge in Teaching and Learning, Pedagogy and Online Learning, particularly in Allied Health and Medical courses. My effective communication and interpersonal skills led to my appointment as the Director of the Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching where I provided oversight in the strategic innovations in teaching and learning.

I have strong ties with Surf Life-Saving SA and their High Performance Surf Sport program. I teach in a variety of areas which provides students with the skills necessary to work within a multidisciplinary environment. I am a member of Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA) and have a number of Athletics Australia, SLSSA and ASCA accredited coaching levels.
