Erick is originally from the States (USA). Completed undergraduate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Geoscience in 1982. Completed Ph.D. in geoscience from the University of Oregon in 1990 (Paleoenvironments of Miocene Ape Fossil Sites in Western Kenya). Post doctoral position at University of Oregon researching the Eocene-Oligocene transition in a field based project in the canyonlands of central Oregon (1991-1995). Visiting Associate Professor at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana (1996-1998). Post doctoral Associate at Idaho State University (hydrogeology) (1998-1999). Arrived Flinders University in 1999.

Teaching interests
My teaching interests are broad and cover many different areas of geoscience. I focus on soil formation, weathering, biogeochemical cycles, landscape evolution, climate change and past climate change (from ice cores and deep sea cores), the carbon cycle, stable isotopes in geochemistry and hydrochemistry.
