I am an Associate Professor in Marine Biology at the College of Science and Engineering and act as the Course Coordinator for the BSc (Marine Biology). I am also one of the Research Leaders of the Cetacean Ecology, Behaviour and Evolution Lab and Deputy Head of the Molecular Ecology Lab, and a member of the IUCN Cetacean Specialist Group. Between 2003 and 2008 I was a Research Fellow at Macquarie University, Sydney, where I coordinated long-term projects on the behavioural and molecular ecology of marine mammals. In 2002-03 I was a Research Associate at Yale University, USA. In 2001 I received my PhD in Environmental Studies from Macquarie University. Before my PhD I was a Research Fellow at the Rio Grande Oceanographic Museum. I received my BSc (Oceanography) from Rio Grande University, Brazil, in 1993.

Teaching interests
My teaching interests are in the areas of marine biology, marine vertebrates, wildlife behaviour and ecology, particularly of mammals, molecular ecology and marine conservation.
