Associate Professor Maayken van den Berg is a Physiotherapist, Movement Scientist and holds a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on advancing allied health clinical practice and novel intervention approaches to support neurological and aged care rehabilitation and self-management. Her work explores ways to improve access to rehabilitation, increase opportunity for practice, and optimise outcomes for people undergoing rehabilitation, and the potential of modern technology to support this. She is interested in mobility, physical activity, as well as cognitive and psychosocial outcomes, with particular experience working with people with acquired brain injury and their family members.

Maayken works collaboratively with clinicians, consumers, health services, and industry. She is the Allied Health Research Chair in the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network. In this joint appointment role she co-designs, implements and evaluates allied health services and interventions and leads research capacity building initiatives.

Maayken is the College of Nursing and Health Sciences Higher Degree by Research Coordinator. She also coordinates the research stream of the Master of Clinical Rehabilitation (coursework) and Master of Health and Clinical Research (higher degree by research).

Maayken has been successful in travel award, internal funding and external funding applications. She has been co-investigator on projects externally funded for a total of > $7M. Maayken has previously received a Paper of the Year award (Journal of Physiotherapy) and the Vice President and Executive Dean's (CNHS) Teaching Award.
