Michael is a senior staff member of the Flinders Hamiltonian Cycle Project team, embedded within Flinders Mathematical Sciences Laboratory, and has a leadership role within that team. His research is split evenly between the development of efficient algorithms and heuristics for solving NP-complete problems, and the development of theoretical advances in graph theory and complexity theory. Michael serves and has served on several committees, including the organising committees for AustMS 2015 and ANZIAM 2017 meetings.
I enjoy teaching all areas of mathematics. However, I have a particular affinity for first year mathematics, as many students arrive at University not having understood or enjoyed mathematics at high school. My teaching style is aimed at not only developing the processes, but a thorough understanding of why and when those processes should be applied.
Michael has been the seminar chairperson for the FMSL Seminar Series since its inception in 2012, which hosts approximately one forum per month featuring national and international experts.
Michael has served on the organising committee for several conferences and workshops, including as secretary for AustMS 2015 and committee member for ANZIAM 2017.
Michael maintains several webpages within Flinders University, including the FMSL webpage, the FHCP webpage and the AustMS 2015 webpage.
Michael has spoken at several schools about mathematics, including Blackfriars and Australian Sciences & Mathematics School. His thoughts and writings have been featured on Channel Nine News, and in several articles in The Advertiser.
