Narelle is a speech pathologist by background with a significant academic career in remote and rural health, Aboriginal health, workforce and health professional education. Her research focuses on quality student-implemented services in remote areas where services are limited, and the career pathways of health professionals. She is passionate about supporting remote and rural health services and research endeavours to benefit communities.

Key responsibilities

As a Flinders Associate Professor of Remote Health based in Darwin, Northern Territory, Narelle's responsibilities focus on education and research into the vexing problems of addressing health workforce shortages. She does this by educating the future workforce in ways that are culturally responsive, and socially accountable, through engagement with communities. She leads projects and teams in innovative activities to support education in place and that support pathways for remote residents from school into health professional training and beyond to well supported careers in remote and rural health.
